OakLawn 9/11 Memorial Dedication 10:00 am at the Metra Station
Your Monumental team would like to welcome everyone to the Oak Lawn Metra Station on Sunday morning 9/11/11 for the Dedication of the Oak Lawn Rotary Club’s 9/11 First Responder Memorial! We are very excited and proud to present the completed sculptures by renowned artist Erik Blome.
It will be a very unique and one-of-a-kind Dedication. We hope everyone will be able to attend this special tribute to our First Responders. There will be a limited number of chairs, so we encourage folks to have a lawn chair handy, just in case.
The Oak Lawn High School Band will begin playing a “Prelude” at 9:55. There will be advancement and posting of colors by the Oak Lawn Police Department Honor Guard, The Oak Lawn Fire Department Honor Guard, the Harold L. Richards High School JROTC and the Johnson Phelps VFW Post 5220. A Band of Brothers Pipes and Drums will set the mood.
Early in the program, Jim Cornelison (Anthem Singer for the Chicago Blackhawks) will treat attendees to his astonishing rendition of our Great National Anthem. If you have never heard this great Chicago tenor sing, here is your chance.
The Military Order of the Purple Heart’s bugle player and A Band of Brothers Pipes and Drums will set the tone after a moment of silence. The Military Order of the Purple Heart will also have on site a wall that honors over 400 Illinois residents who have died for our Country since 9/11.
Oak Lawn Rotary’s very own Hal Wiltshire (a member since 1977) will give the invocation. Hal retired several years ago as the Superintendent of the Oak Lawn Community High School and has done extensive community work for over 30 years.
Our Honorable Mayor Dave Heilmann will be on hand to say a few remarks and introduce the Honorable Congressmen Daniel Lipinski, who will speak a few words and give the order to remove the drapes covering the sculptures.
Sculptor Erik Blome will be on hand to speak about his sculpture, and there will be remarks by Village Manager and Immediate-Past President of the Oak Lawn Rotary Club, Larry Deetjen. Dr. Riordan (Oak Lawn Community High School Superintendent), the current President of the Oak Lawn Rotary Club and your very own blogger of MonumentalOakLawn.com Dr. Sandra Bury (Oak Lawn Rotary Club Fundraising Chair, owner of Complete Vision Care) will also say a few brief remarks.
Oak Lawn Village Clerk and Rotarian Jane Quinlan will conclude the dedication with an invitation to the last day of Fall on the Green for all attendees.
You won’t want to miss this! We look forward to seeing you there as we acknowledge this somber day in our history and our First Responders of the past, present and future.
